Investigating Perimeter in P5

P5 have been learning about the perimeter of shapes.

The perimeter is the distance around the outside of the shape. To calculate the perimeter you add the length of each side together.

The class made their own perimeters using cubes and challenged their partners to find the mystery length. They also had to problem solve using the cubes to find shapes that were the same size perimeter but looked different. The second perimeter challenge was using squared paper and drawing unique shapes for a partner and swapping with a partner. A ruler was vital in drawing their shapes. Some pupils managed to make the smallest and biggest perimeters using the same amount of squares.
