Easter Fun at Alzheimer’s Scotland!
P1C visited our friends at Alzheimer’s Scotland Resource Centre on King Street this afternoon.
What a lovely time we had!
We sang our 4 songs – “Spring Chicken”, “This is how the bunny hops”, “Little Guiding Light” and finished with “Bunny Hokey Cokey”. Our older friends joined in with the final 2 songs.
Then we worked together to decorate Easter eggs for rolling.
They were so kind and we had some lovely conversations, fun and feedback.
Patrick said, “You’ve just made my day!”
And Diane said, “The children are just lovely. So polite. You’ve renewed my faith in young children and want to come and help at the school!”
Linda and Diane even gave us Easter Eggs and a wee chick to take home. Aren’t we lucky!
We are really looking forward in going back to visit our friends in the community again soon.
It helps us learn:
- Developing respect for other members of the community
- How some people work in the community
- Nurturing others of different ages
- New songs – literacy skills, rhyme, pattern, etc
- Craft – fine motor skills, developing pride and excitement in performance
- Craft – pair work with adults, positive interactions, sharing memories/stories from older people, learning about customs and traditions
I’m A Spring Chicken
One mother hen sat on 4 little eggs,
Keeping them warm in her little egg nest,
Then one day she heard a crack,
and a little voice said, as the egg was hatched;
I’m a spring chicken!
I’m yellow and small.
My feathers are fluffy and they’re keeping me warm.
My legs are not long, so I’ll never be tall,
But I’m a real spring chicken and I’m having a ball!
(Chicken I’m a chicken, I’m a having a ball!)
One mother hen sat on 3 little eggs,
keeping them warm in her little egg nest.
Then one day she fell asleep
and a little voice said in a whispered tweet:
I’m a spring chicken!…
One mother hen sat on 2 little eggs,
Keeping them warm in her little egg nest.
Then one day she moved about
and a little voice said, as a chick popped out:
I’m a spring chicken!…
One mother hen sat on 1 little egg,
Keeping it warm in her little egg nest.
Then one day she gave a sigh
and a little voice said SURPRISE! SURPRISE!!
I’m a spring chicken!…
The way the Bunny Hops
This is the way the bunny hops
Hop, hop, hop
On Easter Day
This is the way he wiggles his nose
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle,
This is the way he wiggles his nose
On Easter Day
This is the way he flops his ears
Flop, flop, flop
This is the way he flops his ears
On Easter Day
This is the way he shakes his tail
Shake, shake, shake
This is the way he shakes his tail
On Easter Day
This is the way the bunny hops
Hop, hop, hop
This is the way the bunny hops
On Easter Day
Bunny Hokey Cokey
You put your bunny ears in
You put your bunny ears out
You put your bunny ears in
And you shake them all about
You do the bunny cokey and you hop yourself around
That’s what it’s all about
You put your bunny paws in…
You put your bunny nose in…
You put your bunny tail in…
You put your bunny whiskers in…
You put your bunny body in
That’s what it’s all about!
This Little Light of Mine
Christians believe Jesus brought light into the world when he died on the cross. Now it’s our turn to be a light to others!
This little Guiding light of mine,
I’m going to let it shine,
This little Guiding light of mine,
I’m going to let it shine,
This little Guiding light of mine,
I’m going to let it shine,
Let is shine all the time, let it shine.
Don’t you (pouf) my little light out,
I’m going to let it shine, etc.
Take my little light ’round the world,
I’m going to let it shine, etc.
Hide it under a bush, Oh, no!
I’m going to let it shine, etc.
Last verse:
Don’t you (pouf) my little light out,
I’m going to let it shine.
Take my little light ’round the world,
I’m going to let it shine.
Hide it under a bush, Oh, no!
I’m going to let it shine.
