Thursday afternoon saw P5 take a closer more disgusting look at our digestive system and how it works. Our big question was, ‘How do our bodies get the energy it needs from our food?’ We created a model of our digestive system using house hold objects and our imagination.
The first phase is our mouth and teeth. Saliva helps break down the food. Food travels down the oesophagus with help from our tongue. It then travels through our small intestine, where all the nutrients are absorbed for energy. What is left over then moves through our large intestine, this is where water is absorbed and recycled. It then passes through when we visit the bathroom. Please ask us about our digestive system and what organs allow our food to travel through us.
